The City of Boston Has Passed “GO” and Has Landed a Spot on the World’s Favorite Family Gaming Brand, MONOPOLY; World’s Largest Rowing Competition Selected as the Boston Property Space

Boston, MA – The 50th Anniversary isn’t all that the Head Of The Charles Regatta will be celebrating this year – the Regatta will also officially represent the Boston property space on the new MONOPOLY HERE & NOW: U.S. Edition game, released earlier this month. Hasbro, in celebration of MONOPOLY’s 80th birthday, invited fans across the world to vote and choose their favorite cities to be included as property spaces on the new version of the game.

The City of Boston received enough votes to make it as one of the 22 U.S. cities to be featured in the U.S. Edition game, with The Head Of The Charles Regatta®, the world’s largest two day rowing competition, representing its beloved Beantown. The MONOPOLY HERE & NOW global property space vote, powered by BuzzFeed, invited fans to pick the cities that will be featured in both the World Edition and U.S. Edition games. Boston made it into the top ten landing it on a red space, showcasing Bostonian’s love for their city.

In addition to celebrating its presence on the new MONOPOLY game, The Head Of The Charles, presented by BNY Mellon, will celebrate its 50th anniversary this October, a milestone that the Regatta will recognize in many ways including the introduction of an HOCR commemorative book titled The Head Of The Charles Regatta First 50, which chronicles the first half-century of the race and will be made available for the first time during Regatta weekend.

“It is an honor for the Regatta to be the City of Boston’s representation on the new MONOPOLY HERE & NOW: U.S. Edition game,” said Head Of The Charles Executive Director Fredrick Schoch. “It showcases the popularity of our city and the significance of the Regatta – a true New England event, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. We are proud to represent our region on this iconic game.”

The Head Of The Charles Regatta is free and open to the public. In addition to exhilarating rowing action on the challenging three-mile course – beginning at Boston University’s DeWolfe Boathouse and finishing at Artesani Park in Brighton – the Regatta offers a number of family-friendly activities for all ages, including a rowing and fitness expo; food vendors serving delicacies from all over the world; and Reunion Village – the half-way point between the race offering clubs, schools, alumni groups, parents, boosters and more. It’s the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends in a fun and relaxed environment.
