‘Girls Who Invest’ Founder and Chair Seema R. Hingorani Discusses Mission to Set Women Up For Success in Asset Management

Entrepreneur Shares Goals for Women in Financial Services at BNY Mellon Wealth Management “Game Changers” Event

BOSTON BNY Mellon Wealth Management, a global investment management and investment services company, hosted Girls Who Invest Founder and Chair Seema R. Hingorani for an interactive discussion as part of its “Game Changers” speaker series. At the event, held on November 2 at the BNY Mellon Wealth Management offices in Boston, Hingorani discussed Girls Who Invest’s mission to increase the number of women in asset management. The discussion was moderated by Vicary Graham, BNY Mellon Wealth Management president, New England.

While fields such as academia, medicine and law have become increasingly more diverse, asset management has lagged behind. In fact, over the last six years, the number of female investment managers in the U.S. has fallen. Today, diversity in asset management worldwide is at a startling low, with women and minorities running just 1.1% of the industry’s $71.4 trillion of assets[1]. Hingorani is committed to increasing both the supply and demand sides of the issue, with a goal of having 30 percent of the world’s investable capital managed by women by the year 2030.

When Hingorani was CIO for New York City Retirement Systems ($160 billion in assets), she recognized the dearth of women and minorities on investment teams, as well as the pipeline problem holding the industry back. She founded non-profit Girls Who Invest in 2015, in order to provide more college-aged women with the education, experience and community they need to launch a successful career in the industry. To date, Girls Who Invest has empowered 382 young women, sending a total of 90 undergraduates through their flagship 10-week Summer Intensive Program and another 292 through two additional online learning programs which launched this summer.

In her remarks Hingorani highlighted why it is critically important to bring diversity to the stewardship of capital and the solutions needed to change the face of the industry.

“We were honored to offer our guests a glimpse into the important work Seema is doing to inspire more girls and women to choose a career in investment management,” said Graham. “Her work to grow the pipeline of talented and motivated young women and prepare them with the knowledge and experience necessary to succeed is crucial to the future of our industry. We are pleased she was willing to share her insights and perspectives with BNY Mellon Wealth Management clients and guests.”

“During my time with the New York City Pension Funds, I heard from the leadership of many asset management firms that they wanted to diversify their investment teams, but they weren’t getting resumes from women. So I decided it was time to fix this issue. And that is what we have been doing through Girls Who Invest. We find and train the best and brightest young college women from diverse backgrounds across the country and secure for them paid internships at leading asset management firms around the world. It’s a simple approach and it seems to be working well which is very exciting,” said Hingorani.

Now in its second year, the “Game Changers” series explores women’s entrepreneurial and leadership successes through conversations with exceptional women who have forged their own paths and have insights to share.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management Named Best Private Bank in U.S. for Customer Service by Global Private Banking Awards

BOSTON BNY Mellon Wealth Management is proud to announce that it has been named Best Private Bank in the U.S. for Customer Service by the Global Private Banking Awards. Now in its ninth year, the awards program is organized by Financial Times publications Professional Wealth Management and The Banker. The awards recognize and reward excellence in wealth management.

“This award affirms and reflects a key tenet of our approach – helping clients to succeed and meet their financial goals,” said Don Heberle, CEO of BNY Mellon Wealth Management. “This recognition also speaks to the quality and dedication of our people, who put the needs of our diverse client base at the center of everything they do.  We do not take this success and our 95% client satisfaction rating for granted[1],” stated Heberle, “and will every day continue to earn this recognition and deepen client relationships, particularly as client expectations continue to evolve.”

From May to July of 2017, private banks were invited to apply to the Global Private Banking Awards. Each institution provided growth and performance measures and an executive summary outlining the bank’s qualifications. The submissions were judged by an expert panel of 15 industry professionals based in North America, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Banks were judged on the progress made in their business & growth strategies, their ability to boost inflows and profits, as well as their client relationship management strategies and adaptability.

The awards were officially announced at a gala dinner and ceremony held on Thursday, October 26 in London. The Global Private Banking Awards report will publish in the November issue of The Banker. Additionally, the quantitative data from award applications will be analyzed in the forthcoming annual Private Banking Key Performance Indicators Benchmark study, carried out by Scorpio Partnership.

Killington Resort Expands Renewable Energy Practices for 2017-18 Season

Addition of Solar Farms, Rooftop Arrays and Trackers Highlight Killington Resort and Parent Company POWDR’s Continued Commitment to Play Forever

KILLINGTON, VT – Vermont’s Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America and one of POWDR’s adventure lifestyle companies, will shine a little brighter starting this winter, with numerous new solar power projects that will generate more than 3,300,000 kWh of clean electricity annually for the resort and sister property, Pico Mountain.

“As a destination that wants to be around for generations to come and yet is in a weather dependent industry, it is imperative for us to reduce our carbon footprint and invest in renewable energy sources as much as we can,” said Mike Solimano, president and general manager of Killington Resort. “It is our goal to make Killington and Pico world-class properties in sustainability, and we have high expectations for ourselves and from our guests to be innovative when it comes to environmental responsibility.”

An established leader in sustainability, Killington Resort and Pico Mountain is increasing its commitment to renewable energy as a part of POWDR’s Play Forever sustainability efforts. Killington and Pico will have eight new solar installations on-site for 2017/18, including fourteen AllEarth Solar Trackers which have been designed, tested and engineered in Vermont. The units use GPS technology to follow the sun throughout the day, allowing them to produce up to 45 percent more energy than a fixed system. The trackers, plus three new rooftop installations on the Pico Base Lodge, Pico Administration Building and Killington Golf Course Maintenance Building are expected to generate approximately 200,000 kWh of clean electricity annually.

In addition to the on-mountain solar installations, Killington partnered with Namaste Solar to develop four off-site solar farms within a short drive from the mountain. The four projects will be energized before the end of 2017 and generate more than 3,100,000 kWh of electricity per year, which is more than 10 percent of the resort’s annual usage. The electricity produced from all solar initiatives would power 370 homes annually and conserve 2,471 metric tons of CO2, according to the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator.

Additional investments include low energy snowmaking equipment, electric car charging stations and energy saving initiatives at the Killington Grand Hotel. Killington has partnered with Efficiency Vermont to add 163 new low energy snow guns to its snowmaking arsenal, bringing the estimated total percentage of snowmaking hours from low energy guns to 72 percent. New electric car charging stations will be added at the Grand Hotel, Snowshed and Skyship parking lots. At the Killington Grand Hotel, variable frequency drives (VFDs) have been installed, guest rooms have been equipped with wireless thermostats that allow temperature control of unoccupied rooms and a multi-year heat pump replacement program is underway.

Killington powers its K-1 Express Gondola and the Peak Lodge by purchasing electricity generated by BioGas, through a program commonly known as Cow Power. Killington purchases over a million kilowatt hours of energy annually through Green Mountain Power’s Cow Power program, equivalent to the total electricity usage of nearly 170 homes. The Cow Power program also supports local farms as it provides an additional revenue source to participating farms.

“From cow power to solar power, the Killington team is always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to reduce impact and inspire others to do the same,” said Laura Schaffer, director of sustainability for POWDR. “It’s their desire to collaborate with key partners that make it possible to build these projects and will help the state of Vermont meet the visionary goal of achieving 90 percent of the state’s total energy needs from renewable sources by 2050.”

Killington was awarded Vermont’s 2017 Energy Leadership Award, 2014 Green Mountain Award for Environmental Excellence and Efficiency and the National Ski Areas Association 2013 Golden Eagle Award. Enables greater flexibility for deploying automated DDoS mitigation at the scale, speed and efficacy Corero is best known for

London & Marlborough, MA – Corero Network Security (LSE: CNS), a leading provider of real-time DDoS defense solutions, announced today the availability of its SmartWall Network Threat Defense – Virtual Edition (vNTD) with full detect and mitigate capabilities.

The SmartWall vNTD is a natural extension of the Corero family of automated DDoS protection solutions, enabling seamless deployment of high-performing, scalable, cost-effective protection across physical and virtual environments; on-premises or in the cloud.

“Corero is meeting the demand for real-time DDoS mitigation with an expansive portfolio of solutions for organizations looking to take control of the DDoS threat, eliminate attacks automatically and protect their network infrastructure to maintain service availability in the face DDoS attacks,” said Sean Newman, Director of Product Management, Corero Network Security.

SmartWall vNTD, now available for KVM and vSphere platforms, enables the flexibility to choose physical or virtual form-factors when deploying DDoS protection.

High Performance, CPU efficient, protection with unified management

  • Mitigation deployed, in up to 10Gbps increments, at line-rate speeds
  • Protection scales to terabits per deployment
  • Industry leading performance per virtual CPU core
  • Mixed physical and virtual NTD deployments managed from single a console

SmartWall vNTD provides the scalability, agility and cost flexibility required to deliver DDoS protection for virtualized server infrastructures and SDN/NFV networks, enabling elastically scalable deployments, which can be based on demand for the applications and services being protected.

The expansion of Corero’s SmartWall portfolio with vNTD also enables third-party products, including Firewalls, IPS solutions and other security infrastructure to be enhanced with real-time DDoS mitigation.

“Corero continues to meet customer needs, including technology partners, who are working hard to protect their own customers from the impact of DDoS attacks. Through this process, the requirement for virtualized solutions to support SDN/NFV roll outs and technology partner solutions has been defined. This addition to Corero’s portfolio underscores our leadership in delivering robust, automated DDoS protection to the market,” adds Newman.

Snow is in the air at Killington Resort

Mother Nature gets a boost from expert snowmaking and grooming techniques ahead of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Nov. 24-26

KILLINGTON, Vt. – Vermont’s Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America and part of the POWDR adventure lifestyle company, has begun snowmaking in advance of the 2017 Audi FIS Ski World Cup on November 24-26, 2017. Killington Resort was the first North American ski mountain to open its season to the general public in 2016 and last to close in 2017 for Eastern North America, in part because of the resort’s advanced snowmaking and grooming prowess.

Killington typically begins the longest season in the East with exclusive access for season pass holders, rewarding commitment to the resort with the first turns of the winter. Season Passes and Express Cards are still available to purchase for the 2017/18 season. While there is no confirmed window for Opening Day at this time, snowmaking lit up on Killington and Skye Peaks just before 11:00 p.m. Monday for testing prior to the season and the approaching Audi Ski World Cup races.

Killington has dedicated a snowmaking team to specifically build the race venue on Superstar where the women’s slalom and giant slalom races will take place. Killington’s powerful snowmaking system has the ability to pump more than 720,000 gallons of water into 240 snow guns, covering 80 acres with 12 inches of fresh snow in a matter of hours. Killington’s snowmaking capacity and grooming allow the mountain to maintain a dependable and consistent snow surface regardless of weather conditions.

“When it comes to snowmaking and grooming, we have the best team and tools in the industry to prepare Killington for the winter season and World Cup on Thanksgiving weekend,” said Mike Solimano, President and General Manager of Killington Resort. “Last year, we were able to put on a spectacular World Cup weekend and operate our lifts for more than 200 days before closing on June 1 because of our snowmaking team. Our snowmakers are ready to work with Mother Nature for another monumental World Cup and winter season.”

The general public is invited to view the women’s giant slalom and slalom races from free general admission areas or from the grandstands as a limited number of premium grandstand tickets remain available when Killington hosts the Alpine World Cup event for the second year in a row. The free viewing areas will accommodate approximately 12,000 spectators and Killington will provide free parking and an enhanced shuttle system for event spectators during the weekend. Appropriate attire for winter weather is recommended for the outdoor venue, including sturdy waterproof shoes and multiple layers. No pets, lawn chairs or coolers will be permitted in the Expo Village. In addition, Dispatch will headline a robust music and entertainment lineup for World Cup spectators.
