Recently, our client, RODE Architects, led a pro-bono collaboration to upgrade to the kitchen space of the Gavin Foundation’s Quincy, Massachusetts facility by bringing together a team of experts to complete the $300,000 project. RODE, which designed the reconfigured kitchen and food preparation areas, called on Real-Foods for foodservice planning advice, BLW Engineers for mechanical and electrical engineering services, and Bald Hill Builders to serve as general contractor in charge of permitting and construction oversight. The team completed the project without interrupting meal services. Elevate Communications worked with the RODE team to spread the word about the architecture company’s good deed.
The Gavin Foundation is a Boston-based nonprofit that provides adult, youth and community substance-abuse education, prevention and treatment programs. It annually serves more than 10,000 people. Eating healthy and a nutritious diet are vital aspects of a successful addiction recovery and rehabilitation process.
“When we find opportunities like this to use our design skills and expertise in such an impactful way, we don’t hesitate to dive in,” said Kevin Deabler, co-founder and principal of RODE Architects. “In this case, renovating a kitchen and food-prep area in a complex facility fit right into what we regularly do for our hospitality clients.”
