Location marks the 24th East Coast restaurant for the fast-growing Massachusetts-based hospitality brand
Waltham, MA – August 6, 2015 – Not Your Average Joe’s, the New England-based restaurant known for its globally inspired, chef-driven menu at affordable prices, will bring a fresh and innovative approach to Waltham’s dining scene when it opens its doors at 56 Market Place Drive Monday, August 24, 2015. The restaurant will be the fast-growing hospitality brand’s 24th location along the East Coast and 16th in Massachusetts.
Designed with today’s discerning suburban diner in mind, the Waltham restaurant will boast more than 6,500 square-feet, and feature an open-kitchen model with modern-industrial finishes. More expansive and dedicated bar space will support an increasing demand for casual bar dining, craft cocktails and local libations. The restaurant will also accommodate 200 interior diners and more than 50 diners around a roaring fire pit on the outside patio, another expanded offering for the brand.

The Waltham location will employ more than 120 area residents through a myriad of front-of-house and back-of-house positions, including managers, servers, hosts, cooks and bussers. Not Your Average Joe’s was founded in Dartmouth, MA in 1994 after Silverstein, who was heading his family’s successful retail clothing business at the time, longed to find a great, reasonably priced restaurant in the suburbs. When he couldn’t find it, he opted to build it, despite a lack of experience in the restaurant business. Since then, Not Your Average Joe’s has grown to include 24 locations along the East Coast including Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts and Rhode Island and has established an annual growth rate of more than 25 percent.
With an emphasis on seasonally-inspired ingredients, Waltham’s opening menu will feature an array of dishes, ranging from late-summer specials like Mango Shrimp Summer Rolls and “Joe’s Picnic Chicken,” to more classic fare including Rosemary Skewered Scallops and NY Strip Steak with Horseradish Butter. Because each dish is made-to-order, guests are encouraged to request customization to meet dietary restrictions or taste preferences.
Complementing its fare, Not Your Average Joe’s will also offer inventive cocktails, an extensive award-winning wine list and a wide variety of local, regional, national and imported beers. Offering 21 bottles of wine, including “Smokin Joe’s Bottles” – a collection of high-quality, competitively-priced wines including selections from award-winning winemakers such as Cakebread, Veuve Cliquot and Jordan, the Waltham location will also offer 21 wines by the glass. The restaurant will also feature 20 beers on tap, including a rotating selection of Massachusetts-made “Backyard Brews” from breweries like Pretty Things (Somerville), Jack’s Abby (Framingham) and Slumbrew (Somerville).
In keeping with the brand’s commitment to the communities in which it serves, Not Your Average Joe’s will partner with local non-profit the Boston Area Gleaners during its Waltham grand opening. All proceeds raised during the two-day preview celebrations will be donated to the organization, which is dedicated to rescuing surplus farm crops for people in need.
The Boston Area Gleaners deliver high quality, local produce to pantries and meal programs by working closely with local farmers, providing volunteer labor to harvest what would otherwise be plowed under. In 2014, the organization’s most successful year to date, it gleaned 177,033 pounds of produce featuring 60 different types of crops from 34 farms in eastern Massachusetts, providing the equivalent of 708,132 four ounce servings of fresh fruits and vegetables to the Boston area emergency food system. Since 2004, the Boston area Gleaners have delivered more than 1.88 million servings (more than 470,000 pounds) of fresh local produce to neighbors in need.
The Waltham restaurant will continue to support the Boston Area Gleaners through September with its ongoing “Not Your Average Cause” program, which provides 15% of proceeds to a selected cause every Tuesday.
