BOSTON, September 2, 2020 Fenway Sports Management (FSM), a global sports and entertainment marketing agency that specializes in partnership sales, consulting, and the creation of unique and memorable events and experiences, today announced the launch of Fenway Sports Management University (FSMU), a free virtual education program designed to provide college students, recent graduates and industry professionals the knowledge and skills to pursue a successful career in sports business. FSM is part of an elite family of properties under Fenway Sports Group (FSG) that includes some of the most storied teams and venues in sports including the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, NESN, and Roush Fenway Racing.

FSMU is designed to educate and generate connections and possible opportunities for those that have experienced school and work interruptions due to COVID-19 and is free and open to the public. The program’s unique and highly specialized curriculum will offer participants a 360-degree integrated perspective of the sports business industry and provide in-depth views of core business disciplines within the sector including but not limited to broadcasting, sports journalism, community relations, finance, HR, venue operations, team operations, marketing, public relations, athlete representation, collegiate athletics, research & analytics, sponsorship sales and consulting. Each session will be led by current executives from FSG’s portfolio of properties including Premier League Champions Liverpool Football Club and the Boston Red Sox, as well as prominent executives from FSM’s elite client roster of sports properties and brands. The program will consist of 12 virtual sessions over 14 weeks beginning this September with sessions being held weekly on Wednesday evenings. Interested participants can enroll here. College students may also be able to receive internship credit if approved by their college or university.

The announcement of FSMU comes on the heels of the successful completion of a beta education program developed by FSM and in partnership with FSG-sister property the Boston Red Sox that was rolled out this spring as the coronavirus pandemic shuttered sports and entertainment venues across the globe. The beta program, which was open to a pool of internal candidates including game day staff, summer intern and FSM Associate prospects, included nearly 300 participants. The six-week curriculum featured top front-office executives across FSG’s portfolio, including Red Sox Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer Tim Zue, FSM Executive Vice President/Chief Business Development Officer John Clark, and Red Sox Assistant Director of Amateur Scouting Devin Pearson.

“Investing in talent development is a key priority for us, so when we witnessed the devastating impact the pandemic had on young professionals planning to embark on a career in sports, we felt it was incumbent upon us to fill the gap and provide opportunities for them to gain real-world experiences,” said FSM President Mark Lev. “We’re fortunate to work alongside some of the brightest and most talented executives in sports, both within the Fenway Sports Group family and through our client relationships with leading brands and properties, and FSMU provides an ideal platform through which we can share their valuable insights and perspectives as we cultivate the next generation of sports business leaders.”
